Success in the financial planning field means having a passion for what you do. After more than 40 years in the business, Chornyak & Associates still operates on that simple principle. “You have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and then give unconditionally, sharing your knowledge with clients to try and help them as much as possible,” says Joe Chornyak, Sr., founder and managing partner.
“Everyone’s financial lives are so complex that we must help them with all the different pieces and parts,” says Joe, Sr. “My philosophy has always been that I can't help people realize their goals unless I have a clear understanding of their total financial picture. Our advisors need to understand how all those pieces fit together and help them make the right long-term decisions.”
Today, 12 professionals comprise the firm’s team, which includes CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP®) professionals and certified public accountants (CPAs). Joe, Jr., one of the firm’s CFP® professionals, has been at the company since 1993, carrying on the family tradition into a second generation.
Every move the staff at Chornyak & Associates makes is customized and individualized to the client’s particular goals and objectives. The firm’s core belief and philosophy is that before giving advice to a client, the advisor must imagine being in their client’s position.
Chornyak & Associates has clients across the United States. Approximately one-third of them are located outside of central Ohio, including in every major metropolitan city in the country. The firm makes it easier for long-distance clients to keep in touch by offering online account management options and a monthly e-newsletter that shares tips and information to help them better manage their finances.
In order to continue providing its high level of service, the firm’s advisors are required to maintain their licenses and certifications through continuing education. However, Joe, Sr., a great believer in the power of knowledge, encourages his staff to learn something new every day. “When you stop learning, you stop growing,” he says.
Chornyak & Associates also knows the value of building a stronger community by giving back in a variety of different ways. The firm has been a major sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation, Boy Scouts, the Dublin Arts Council, and the local public radio station, WCBE. In past WCBE fund-raisers, Chornyak & Associates agreed to match public donations called in during the pledge drive. Both Joe, Sr. and Jr. have spoken on the public radio station to help generate donations. The Chornyak team gets great satisfaction out of giving and helping.
